Paula and Leo visited St John Bosco school and were inspired to help and along with the staff, worked hard to produce clean and colourful rooms and transformed them into a great space for the children. Since we left one of the teachers, Patrick, has painted his classroom and others teachers are planning to do the same! The children and teachers were delighted and they had fun sharing stories and learning new songs along the way.

Jo, our hospice nurse, visited the Little Hospice of Hoima with some of the team and were very fortunate and delighted to meet Dr Anne Merriman, who was visiting Hoima at the time. Dr Merriman is the founder of the hospice movement in Uganda who  developed a template for care of the dying that is now used all over Africa. 

We heard the story of a man we had helped last year. He had been injured and unable to walk and his only possessions were the clothes he wore. No known relatives and no one to look after him. Over the 2 weeks we got a frame and got him walking, gave him lots of height calorie drinks, clothes and shoes that we brought out with us fitted him.
The social work department did the rest. They found his family and they were reunited after 30 years! Delighted to see him, he is now walking without a frame and has started a little business for himself, a very happy ending!

The October team have nearly finished their 2 week stint volunteering in Hoima & have been working hard working alongside their counterparts in Hoima. The team are mostly nurses, plus a doctor, a play specialist & a student. Joy has done a great job as team leader & has got various improvement projects underway and done some much needed networking with the Ministry of Health.
